Chapter 12

Rachel had finished making lemonade for her friends, when the doorbell rang. Making sure to first check the peephole, Rachel opened the door to Hannah and her baby, Annie. Rachel knew Hannah went nowhere without Annie these days and Rachel was happy to see both.

“Come in, can I take the diaper bag?” Rachel asked.

“Gladly, between the baby carrier and my purse and the diaper bag, I feel like my arms will soon fall off,” Hannah laughed.

After setting the carrier which held Annie, down, along with her purse, Hannah embraced not only Rachel but her sisters as well. They were sisters in every way. Although, Sher was Hannah’s sister-in-law and Lynn was Sher’s best friend stating in grade school and because of all the three had endured the past two years, they were now truly sisters. And since Lynn married Glen’s old partner, Rick and moved to Estes Park, they were all family. They even had a triple wedding.

Rachel envied the three women’s closeness. She grew up in an orphanage and multiple foster homes, and therefore she felt distance from people and relationships, until Mack broke through the brick walls she put up around herself. Now she felt honored to have these wonderful, spirited women as her friends.

“Can I say something, please? Can we keep our visit to pleasant topics and nothing regarding what I went through? I’m sure you’ve all been told the details and I’d like to have a day filled with laughter and happiness.” Rachel said.

Hannah and Lynn nodded, as Sher said, “We are all in agreement. We’ve all been there, and know what you need.”

Before she sat down on the sofa next to Lynn, Rachel bent down and looked at the sleeping little angel in the carrier. Wondering if someday, she would have a precious little one.

“Hannah, she is so beautiful. And Sher, you and Lynn will have one of your own before long. You will also be wonderful mothers soon. Have you come up with names yet, or do you even know if you’re having girls or boys?”

Everyone laughed. “It’s too soon to find out, but Glen and I both decided we want to be surprised.”

Lynn laughed and added, “Same here. Rick and I are not pulling in any one direction. We just want our baby to be healthy. So I guess that means a lot of green and yellow baby clothes. Nothing in pink or blue.”

“We have gone over some baby names for both sexes. Glen and I both like Erin for a girl and Alex for a boy.” Sher said.

More laughter came from Lynn. Rick and I liked the name Alex for a boy too, but luckily for all of us, we changed it to Shaun and Rebecca for a girl.”

“I love all four of those names. How I envy you all, with your happy family and soon to be children.” Rachel said.

“You know, I have a strong feeling you will be joining us. You and Mack will marry and soon start your own precious family.
